Are you new to the workout/ weight training scene? You are probably considering taking some supplements. You may also be confused about what to take. There are so many out there and so many opinions on what to take. Here are some basics to get you started.

You know by know how important proper nutrition is to your workout routine. The problem is that many of us do not get enough vitamins and nutrients from our regular diet. This is where supplements can help out.

One thing to be careful of is to not get overly excited about supplements and end up getting everything under the sun. This is just not necessary. And when you are just starting out, you may not even benefit from many of the supplements out there.

Here are some good ones to think about. But always make sure you review with your nutritionist or doctor.

Vitamin D is something that we get naturally from the sun. However, most of us do not get enough. Not to mention that some of us should try to stay out of the sun for other health reasons. The good news is that you can take vitamin d supplements to make up for any deficiency. Vitamin D is important for the strength or our bones and it is our bones of course that get us around and work with our muscles. Taking care of our core is first and foremost.

Another important supplement is Fish Oil. You can get fish oil or omega3 from fish of course, but most everyone could use more. What can this do for me, you ask? Fish oil helps with heart health (and you will be working your heart during workouts) and also acts as an anti-inflammatory. On the surface this may not seem to be vital, but your body will be going through some touch workouts and a natural anti-inflammatory will help.

Of course your muscles and body will need protein. It is protein that  helps to build up and repair muscles after a tough workout. You really want most of the protein that get to come from your diet, but usually you require more than that. This is when protein supplements and drinks come in handy. You definitely want to make sure you get ample amounts of protein.

Vegetables are important, you have know this since you were a young lad. And they are even more important when training. The problem is that most of us do not get proper amounts of fruits and vegetables from our diet. Fortunately there are vegetable supplements that we can take to make up for this deficiency.

Finally there is creatine. Many bodybuilders use creatine to build muscle and strengthen their muscle tissue. Newbies might want to consider this supplement as well to facilitate their efforts. You are likely to see results a bit faster.

As you progress in your training, there may be additional supplements to consider, but you should wait until that time comes and just focus on the basics for now.
